One Earth Film Fest Marquee at Lake Street Theater

The Midwest’s premier environmental film festival, One Earth Film Festival creates opportunities for understanding climate change, sustainability and the power of people.

2026 will mark our 15th anniversary season. Using science based journalism and powerful story telling OEFF showcases top-issue, thought-provoking environmental films + climate justice films, and leads audiences in interactive post-film discussions focused on solutions. In a typical year, we meet in person throughout communities in the City of Chicago and the five-county metropolitan area. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we met virtually, thus expanding our audience online nationally and even internationally. Now our events are generally “hybrid,” meaning both in person and online simultaneously.

We engage private, public and non-profit sector partners in the sponsorship and production of the film festival. We center the stories, solutions, and voices of BIPOC and other marginalized groups most affected by the climate crisis and environmental injustice.
