one earth film fest

One Earth Film Fest Marquee at Lake Street Theater

The Midwest’s premier environmental film festival, One Earth Film Festival creates opportunities for understanding climate change, sustainability and the power of people.

2024 will mark our 13th anniversary season. Showcasing top-issue, thought-provoking environmental films, the film fest leads audiences in interactive post-film discussions focused on solutions. In a typical year, we meet in person throughout communities in the City of Chicago and the five-county metropolitan area. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we met virtually, thus expanding our audience online nationally and even internationally. Now our events are generally “hybrid,” meaning both in person and online simultaneously.

We engage private, public and non-profit sector community partners in the sponsorship and production of the film festival.

By the Numbers

  • In 2024, the Film Fest will run in conjunction with the City of Chicago from April 17 to 21, during Earth Month.

  • In 2020: 29 films in 46 locations throughout Chicagoland, including Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, Counties, as well as Whiting, Indiana, plus virtually, nationwide.

  • In 2020: festival events attracted more than 6,000 attendees to in-person and virtual screenings.

  • Since its start, One Earth Film Fest has reached more than 46,000 viewers in hundreds of zip codes, dozens of states, and now (virtually) international locales.

  • On average, more than 200 sponsors, program partners, and action partners support the festival annually.
